Background
Higher House Productions Ltd was established in 2003 when Ian Chamings left a career as a patent attorney to begin developing an idea he had while DJing. He thought he could get a computer to do most of what a DJ did when mixing tracks together. After graduation he began the process of patenting the idea so that he could begin its development. Working in a patent firm did help matters. To contact Ian email ian.chamings@mixalbum.com
The patent was granted in 2003, and so the hunt was on for funding and suppliers to get the patent developed into a prototype. The Prince’s Trust and Business Link set the ball rolling and a showcase site was launched demonstrating the software.
The next stage was to get the site launched properly, and to do this required more investment, more contacts, more PR – enter the Dragons’ Den.
Tom Hedley is the Head Programmer at MixAlbum.com. It’s not clear what Tom was doing before joining MixAlbum.com – if you ask him you’ll get a string of expletives and something about fibre optics at the University of Bath. Some say the keys on his keyboard are all blank, and by his sink lies a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a screwdriver. All we know is, he’s the Stig of Computers. If you find an error or just simply want to ‘big the man up’ email tom.hedley@mixalbum.com.
